Why did you decide to become an attorney?
Injury or death from an accident or malpractice can create a myriad of problems for the victims we represent. Many of our clients have been catastrophically injured or lost a loved one, and in such instances the client is often totally reliant on us to help them survive in the financial sense. I get great satisfaction in helping these people and their families through difficult times.
What experiences (work and personal) help you to be a better attorney?
On a personal level, when I was in high school I read the book "The Power of Positive Thinking", by Norman Vincent Peale. I went on to read his other books and others on the topic. When representing seriously injured victims, it is important that they have an advocate who is positive and ready and willing to take charge.
At work, I have the best support staff any attorney could ever wish for. Every day they make me a better attorney !
What made you choose your primary area of law?
Rich, poor or inbetween, people who are injured are vulnerable and in no condition to deal with an adversary such as an experienced insurance adjuster. A typical victim of an accident or malpractice has no experience with which to judge what fair compensation is or how to navigate the claims process or litigation. I get great satisfaction in helping people reach fair results regarding their claims.
What makes your law firm unique?
We limit our practice to representing individuals who are physically or financially injured by the wrongdoing of others. With our financial resources and experience, we help level the playing field for individuals seeking compensation from wrongdoers who are backed by powerful insurance companies or corporations. As such, we typically do not represent insurance companies or large corporations.
Describe your ideal client.
My ideal client is someone who, despite being injured, tries their best to recover and to get on with their life. For example, I frequently tell clients that their job is more important than their case, and that they should try to go back to work as soon as reasonably possible. Juries are much more impressed with people who try to recover and get on with their lives than someone who doesn't. An ideal client is also someone who participates in their case when needed.
Describe your personal interests and hobbies.
Spending time with my wife and children, golf, exercise, art, and watching Ohio State football and basketball.
Describe your charitable activities.
My favorite charities are The James Cancer Hospital and various homeless shelters.
