Why did you decide to become an attorney?
After many years in the work force, I was searching for meaning and purpose in my work. Working as an attorney allows me to help people in a way that can significantly change people's lives for the better.
What experiences (work and personal) help you to be a better attorney?
I did not go to law school until I was in my 40s, so I had been a "real person" for many years before I became an attorney. I think that my life experiences help me to communicate better with my clients and to understand their needs and feelings.
What made you choose your primary area of law?
Approximately 50% of my practice is in the area of immigration law. From a law perspective, it involves mostly the practice of administrative law. From a practical standpoint, my job is to help my clients present themselves in the most favorable light so that they can obtain the immigration benefits to which they are entitled and to help them cut through and understand the lengthy and complicated rules and regulations.
The other 50% of my practice is in employment law. As a former HR manager, I know that sometimes employers make mistakes and treat their employee unfairly or improperly. I try to help employees in these situations to find an adequate resolution to their problems.
What makes your law firm unique?
I'm a sole practitioner. As such, I screen and select the cases that I will work on. No one else is telling me what cases I will handle. So, once I accept a case, you know that I am willing to do whatever it takes to see your case through to the end.
