Why did you decide to become an attorney?
I took the LSAT on a bet in college as part of an ongoing competition with a very smart friend. I did score better than he did, and better than I ever expected to score. Two years later, Capital University Law School Dean John W. McCormac decided to accept me and the First Calvary Division released me from the last 60 days of my tour of duty as an artillery officer in Vietnam.
What experiences (work and personal) help you to be a better attorney?
Being married for 40 years, having four children, and having lots of life experience help me to be a better attorney. My mother always said I would have been a better social worker than an attorney because I enjoy helping people solve personal problems, but I think that's exactly what the practice of law is about.
Describe your personal interests and hobbies.
I love to cook and I love to eat. I enjoy reading, hiking and walking my (daughter's) dog. I play golf when I can, and I spend as much time as possible with my family. I especially enjoy my time with my grandchildren.
Describe your charitable activities.
I have been involved with The Boy Scouts of America for many years. I volunteer for The Legal Aid Society, the Columbus Marathon, and the March of Dimes. I also am a lector at my church.
